Scouts Movement General History and Purpose

The origins of the scout movement can be traced back to the year 1907 and its founder was Robert Baden-Powell. In those formative years, it was only meant for boys. At that time, he relied heavily on his past experience in the Boer war where they had very successfully used boys as messengers whereby freeing the soldiers to do the fighting. In 1910 a €œGirl Guides€ movement was also started. Later on both merged under the common name of scouts.
The scout movement was started with the sole purpose of inculcating values and to improve upon the physical and mental development along with spiritual development.
These qualities will stand him in good stead for him to play an active role in the development of the society at large.
The vision for scouting is: €œAs a global movement, making a real contribution to creating a better world.€
The mission for the movement is to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society.
Presently there are more than twenty eight million scouts in the world and the numbers just keep on growing. The organization has spread its wings in 160 countries.
The scout movement is basically a totally voluntary organization. Therefore to keep the young people and students interested in staying with the movement the scout organization has a dedicated team which keeps in touch with its members on a regular basis and they also conduct satisfaction surveys so that improvements can be made where they are genuinely required.
